I would very much like to welcome you to the Clinical Commissioning Groups (CCGs) Counter Fraud Web Pages. These pages have been designed to give you a supply of information on how we can all counter fraud and corruption in our work lives.
The Counter Fraud Service (now NHS Protect) was established in 1998 when it was recognised that fraud was a major issue for the NHS. NHS fraud is committed by staff, professionals, patients, contractors and managers but the fact is, no matter who it is committed by, it is damaging the Health Service as funds are being diverted away from patient care. Every NHS Organisation within England and Wales has a nominated Local Counter Fraud Specialist (LCFS) who is dedicated to investigating fraud. To date, their work has found fraud in every area of the NHS and the work that has been undertaken since the introduction of the Counter Fraud Service has resulted in hundreds of millions of pounds being recouped and many fraudsters being prosecuted.
We are now in the early stages of our new health environment and things are likely to change quickly over the coming months as we all settle in to our new rolls and responsibilities. However, some things don’t change and that is, should you suspect a fraud it is important that you report it!
This site is still being developed and will evolve over the coming months but in the meantime I hope you find the site interesting and useful. The site includes information on the following areas:
