Diabetes Lead Pharmacists, Hanadi Alkhder and Sharon Coane, won an award for their recent poster submission to the National Conference of the Primary Care Diabetes Society.
Their poster on the Safer Prescribing of Insulin outlined the recent work that has been underway in Solihull to minimise the risks of harm to patients from insulin use.
Their poster was selected as the overall winner from approx. 40 entries. The judges commented that it tackled an important safety issue and provided simple strategies that could be readily replicated across the country. Of the win, Sharon and Hanadi said, “We were really happy to win the award at a prestigious national conference and receive recognition for the work we have been doing with GP practices across Solihull. It has been a collaborative team effort to improve awareness and we are happy to share this approach with others for the benefit of insulin users.”
The team have since attended a Solihull PLT session where they have handed out starter packs of insulin safety cards to local GP practices. For more information about this work, please contact the Medicines and Prescribing team.
