Patients urged to know their numbers with free blood pressure tests

Patients in Solihull are being offered free blood pressure checks as part of Know Your Numbers Week from 12 – 18 September. Health leaders at NHS Solihull Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) are urging patients to know their numbers by visiting www.bloodpressureuk.org to find their nearest pressure station.

Known as the silent killer, high blood pressure affects around 30% of people across England*. Often going undetected until far too late, high blood pressure can lead to heart attack, stroke or even death. But a simple two minute painless test will tell people if their blood pressure is normal, high or low and could potentially save their life.

Blood Pressure UK has over 1,500 'Pressure Stations' across the UK offering free blood pressure checks. Approximately 16 million people in the UK have high blood pressure and approximately one third of people with high blood pressure do not know that they have it*.

The ideal blood pressure range is below 120 over 80 (120/80mmHg) but most adults in the UK have readings from 120/80mmHg to 140/90mmHg.

High blood pressure is one of the largest causes of premature death and disability for people in Solihull due to the potentially fatal strokes, heart attacks, heart failure or even kidney failure it causes.

Without knowing their numbers, many people are unable to take those vital steps towards a healthier life. High blood pressure has no symptoms – that’s why it’s called the silent killer, so the only way to know your numbers is to have a blood pressure check.
